Early in my career, I believed technology alone was the answer to most business problems. I understood production planning, manufacturing workflows, and process models - at least in theory.

Then I stepped onto a real manufacturing shop floor.

The reality was very different.

Machines stopped unexpectedly.

Materials did not always arrive on time.

Data was incomplete. And every process depended on people working within real-world constraints and dependencies.

Fortunately, I had the opportunity to learn from experienced manufacturing professionals who followed one simple principle:

GO TO THE SOURCE. OBSERVE THE PROCESS. UNDERSTAND THE REALITY.

I spent countless hours following material movement, observing operators, understanding bottlenecks, and learning how work actually gets done.

That experience taught me a lesson that has stayed with me throughout 40+ years in manufacturing, ERP, and business transformation:

NO SOFTWARE CAN FIX A BROKEN PROCESS.

ERP systems do not create discipline. They expose the absence of it.

The most successful transformation initiatives I have seen were never technology-first projects.

They were built on people, processes, accountability and operational discipline. Technology simply amplified what was already working.

Technology is an enabler. People and processes create results.
